What an excellent blog post Jenny. The special journey you have embarked on as the colleagues who will work together in 2018 is such a good idea. Regular meetings are the way forward for sure. Knox (2009) defines a community of practice as a group of people who share a passion for something they know how to do and who interact regularly to learn how to do it better. I think you have the pathway well mapped and certainly have a effective and forward thinking CoP.
Thanks Jenny! I do like how you've referred to Knox's "garden" analogy. As educators, it can be difficult to define CoPs that are organic rather than forced, and we need to focus on the shared passions that join us rather than the membership. I can really appreciate that within a school environment you have developed a Community of Practice that is truly naturally formed.
Kia Ora Jenny...Happy Days!

ReplyDeleteThought provoking, isn't it?!
Interesting reading. You have several CoP's out of school. Music is a great passion and one where you are always learning off and with others.
